Did someone say jungle garden?!
If you have been following us for a little while now you’ll know that we loveee any green space that we can find in the city. Last weekend Alex and his dad visited a National Garden Scheme open garden in Monton - a stone’s throw from Manchester City Centre. The garden in question belongs to Tracy and Tony, a couple that have been working on their garden for over 15 years. The house was derelict when they bought it and the garden majorly overgrown. When they stripped it back t

A Rainy Day at Dunham Massey
With El Niño on the horizon, and hot summer days seemingly behind us, we thought it would be fun to revisit one of our rainier summer adventures this year. Earlier this August we visited Dunham Massey, a National Trust site based in Altrincham (only a tram ride away from the centre of Manchester!) with a huge Georgian house and 300-acre medieval deer park. Despite the rainy weather forecast the park was filled with summer festivities and we enjoyed puppet shows, tightrope wal

Queerness, Community & Nature at Platt Fields Alt Pride
Saturday 5th September saw the return of Platt Field Market Garden's Alternative Pride event. The day was filled to the brim with fascinating talks, wholesome plant-based food and creative workshops, such as lino printing, botanical paper making, and even an intense portrait drawing followed by turning your paper into mulch. One of the events that stood out to me was an engaging panel discussion on finding solidarity within queer communities through green spaces and nature. T

Do all gays eat their vegetables?
At The Veg Lord they do! This Saturday (22nd August) The Veg Lord, a gorgeously fresh farmers market based in Mossley, is holding it's first ever Pride event! It is going to be a fun-packed day with free face painting, a DJ and many stallholders, including our very own Alex! All proceeds from the day are going to be donated to the The George House Trust, who provide support, advice and advocacy services for people living with HIV. The George House Trust has been working to su

Just as bees expand their hives to accommodate their growing populations, Manchester city centre has become a hotspot for shiny new apartments and office spaces. This ever evolving urbanisation of the city centre causes damage to the environment and the people that live in these conditions: the production of pollution, an increasing

Potty's Official Plant Swap is coming to the Northwest...
It is officially 2 weeks until the next Sunshine Plant Collective, and if you are lucky there may even be a few swapper tickets left for you to join in on the main event of the day: a plant swap. There are a few plant swaps in the northwest and around Manchester, but they are infrequent. The goal of the Sunshine Plant Collective is to create an in-person houseplant community right here in the northwest where folk can socialise, learn, create and grow their houseplant collecti

Potty about plants? You're in the right place!
Hey! Welcome to the official Potty blog. Whether you have found us through a panicked google search (‘My late grandmother’s plant is dying, HELP!’) or you are already a member of the Potty community, welcome. What is Potty? If you’ve made it this far you probably already have some inkling that Potty is indeed a houseplant shop. It is also a houseplant community. What started as a few cacti up for sale has grown to become a vibrant, ever blooming garden of fun-filled communi
